I graduated from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in 1970 with a degree in Radio and Television Arts. I then worked in educational television at both M.E.E.T.A. and Access Alberta. I also worked in a variety of jobs ranging from mining, to sports facility management and commercial fishing.
I began working in the British Columbia film industry in 1987. I became a member of I.A.T.S.E. Local 891 in 1988 and have remained active in the local in various capacities: 6 years as Member-At-Large, 2 years as Vice-President and presently as the Trustee of the Health and Welfare Committee.
In 1992 I established and currently own and operate A & D Grip Rentals Inc., a business that provides equipment for the Grip Department on a film production.
Over the years I have spent time taking prospective Grips out on film sets in order to pass on knowledge and skills in a hands-on working environment. I have taught a number of 2 day grip introductory workshops for various school boards for their career day events. I was also involved with other members of I.A.T.S.E. 891, the Government of BC and the British Columbia Institute of Technology in developing a Grip course for the I.A.T.S.E. / BC Government Apprenticeship Program.
My Grip Department positions have ranged from a Grip, Leadman Set-Up, Rigging Grip, Best Boy Grip to my present position of Key Grip. I have worked on a variety of productions that include TV Series, Movies of the Week, Mini Series, Music Videos and Feature Films. To date, I have been the Key Grip on approximately 500 Television Commercials. With my extensive grip experience, dedicated work ethic and positive attitude, I feel that I would be a valuable addition to a production team.
